Common questions
What aptitude tests are used for ATC selection?
NATS Stage 1 is eleven online ability tests covering areas such as spatial awareness, logical thinking, numerical ability, sense of direction and reaction speed, completed online within 14 days and remotely proctored, followed at Stage 2 by an online situational judgement test and an online listening comprehension test, completed within 14 days. NATS doesn't publish the names of the individual tests, how many questions they have, how long each one takes or the pass mark. Many European air navigation service providers use Eurocontrol FEAST instead — FEAST I: cognitive ability tests (such as decision-making, planning, memory, logical reasoning, visual perception, attention, multitasking and spatial orientation) plus an English listening and comprehension test (ELICIT), taking roughly 2.5 to 4 hours depending on which tests the organisation uses. Each organisation chooses which FEAST tests it uses and sets its own pass threshold.
How hard are ATC aptitude tests?
Both the NATS Stage 1 and the Eurocontrol FEAST assessments are highly competitive. NATS and Eurocontrol do not publish pass rates, and NATS candidates who fail a stage must wait for the next recruitment campaign to reapply. The tests require both natural aptitude and dedicated preparation. Many candidates find that focused practice helps them feel better prepared.

Is this the same as the real test?
No. NATS and EUROCONTROL don't publish their tests, and no independent site has access to them. For FEAST, EUROCONTROL also offers free official practice at feast-training.eurocontrol.int.
Does this help with the Eurocontrol FEAST test?
It gives you extra practice for many of the ability areas FEAST assesses, such as spatial orientation, logical reasoning, attention, memory and multitasking — but it isn't the FEAST test.
