What is the FEAST test?
FEAST — the First European Air Traffic Controller Selection Test — was developed by Eurocontrol and is now the standard aptitude test for ATC recruitment across most of Europe. Over 100,000 candidates have been assessed using FEAST since its introduction.
FEAST I is the core cognitive battery (2.5–4 hours) and is the primary filter in most selection processes. It assesses the mental aptitudes proven to predict whether a candidate will succeed in ATC training: spatial visualisation, numerical processing, logical reasoning, multitasking and situational judgement.
Because FEAST is standardised across all participating ANSPs, preparing with ATC Practice is effective regardless of which European country you are applying in.
How our tests map to FEAST
Every FEAST I cognitive area is covered by ATC Practice practice tests.
FEAST: Spatial Reasoning
ATC Practice: Spatial Reasoning
Aircraft headings, radar bearings and 3D visualisation — directly mirrors FEAST spatial tasks.
FEAST: Numerical Reasoning
ATC Practice: Numerical Reasoning
Data tables, charts and fast numerical calculations under time pressure.
FEAST: Abstract / Logical Reasoning
ATC Practice: Logical Reasoning
Pattern sequences, deductions and abstract problem solving.
FEAST: Situational Judgement
ATC Practice: Situational Judgement
Workplace scenarios testing decision-making under pressure.
FEAST: Dual-Task / Multitasking
ATC Practice: Switch — Dual Task
Memorise sequences while simultaneously answering True/False statements — mirrors FEAST multitasking.
FEAST: NDB / Spatial Instruments
ATC Practice: NDB Direction (Scales NDB)
Use cockpit GYRO and RBI instruments to identify aircraft position — advanced spatial awareness.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Eurocontrol FEAST test?
FEAST (First European Air Traffic Controller Selection Test) is a standardised aptitude battery developed by Eurocontrol and used by over 50 Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) across 40 countries to select trainee air traffic controllers. It measures the cognitive aptitudes proven to predict ATC performance: spatial reasoning, numerical ability, logical reasoning, multitasking and situational judgement.
Which countries use the FEAST test?
FEAST is used across most of Europe (excluding France and the UK, which use their own exams). Major users include Germany (DFS), Netherlands (LVNL), Austria (Austro Control), Belgium (skeyes), Switzerland (Skyguide), Sweden (LFV), Norway (Avinor), Poland (PANSA), Croatia, Hungary, Denmark, Finland, Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, Malta, Slovakia and Bulgaria, among others.
What does FEAST I consist of?
FEAST I is the core cognitive aptitude battery, typically lasting 2.5–4 hours. It includes tests of spatial reasoning, numerical reasoning, logical/abstract reasoning, attention and concentration, multitasking, memory and situational judgement — plus an English language assessment. Individual ANSPs may select which sub-tests to include.
How do I prepare for the FEAST test?
The most effective preparation is regular timed practice across all cognitive test areas. FEAST rewards both accuracy and speed — you need to work quickly without sacrificing correctness. Practise each test type separately first, then do mixed timed sessions. Our platform covers all four main FEAST I cognitive areas plus a dual-task simulation.
Is the FEAST test the same across all ANSPs?
The core test battery is standardised by Eurocontrol, but individual ANSPs can select which sub-tests to include and set their own pass thresholds. The cognitive skills tested are always the same — spatial, numerical, logical and multitasking — so preparing across all areas covers you regardless of which ANSP you are applying to.
