HungaroControl · Eurocontrol FEAST
Applying to HungaroControl in Hungary?
HungaroControl is the Hungarian air navigation service provider, responsible for ATC across Hungarian airspace and at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Hungary's location at a major European air traffic crossroads means HungaroControl manages dense flows of both transit and local traffic.
HungaroControl uses the Eurocontrol FEAST battery for trainee controller selection. Importantly, in Hungary applicants can only take the FEAST test once — making thorough preparation essential. There are no second chances.
The FEAST I tests assess the cognitive aptitudes proven to predict ATC performance: spatial visualisation, numerical processing, logical deduction and multitasking. Each of these is covered in ATC Practice's practice platform with full-length timed simulations.
Given the one-attempt rule in Hungary, we recommend completing multiple practice runs across all four test types before sitting FEAST. Familiarity with question formats, timing and the type of thinking required significantly improves performance.

Can I retake the FEAST test if I fail at HungaroControl?
No — in Hungary, applicants can only take the FEAST test once. This makes preparation particularly important. Practise extensively across all FEAST I test areas before your sitting.
About the FEAST test
What does the FEAST test measure?
FEAST I measures the core cognitive aptitudes required for successful ATC training: spatial reasoning, numerical ability, logical/abstract reasoning, multitasking, memory and situational judgement. These are proven predictors of ATC performance identified through decades of Eurocontrol research.
How long is the FEAST test?
FEAST I typically takes 2.5–4 hours and covers multiple cognitive test areas. The exact duration depends on which sub-tests the ANSP has chosen to include. FEAST II (if used) adds 1.5–2 hours of interactive multitasking simulations.
How hard is it to pass the FEAST test?
FEAST is a competitive test — pass rates vary by ANSP but only a fraction of applicants advance. Candidates who prepare thoroughly across all cognitive test areas perform significantly better. Familiarity with question formats and timed conditions is a major advantage.
What tests does ATC Practice include?
ATC Practice covers Spatial Reasoning (40 questions, 20 min), Numerical Reasoning (40 questions, 20 min), Logical Reasoning (40 questions, 20 min), Situational Judgement (35 questions, 25 min), NDB Direction (24 questions) and Switch — a dual-task simulation. All tests are timed and full-length.
